With a glasses collection of 24 pairs, it’s surprising to learn that Angie used to struggle with finding the perfect fitting frames. Angie explains, “It’s been a curse, until recently. For a long time, I couldn’t find frames that fit my face, both in size and style. As a result, I didn’t always feel cute or stylish. Now, fashionable eyewear is more readily available in larger frames, making it easier for me to express who I am.” We’re excited to share Angie’s personal style story and amazing fashion advice. You rock Angie!
Name & Nickname: Angie Chua | Woo
Home base: Bay Area, CA
I applied to become a style ambassador because: A friend of mine who knows about my unhealthy obsession with glasses informed me of the Style Ambassador program. I applied because I feel that I am part of an underserved demographic of people… delightfully chubby, with a large head and poor vision. It’s been a curse, until recently. For a long time, I couldn’t find frames that fit my face, both in size and style. As a result, I didn’t always feel cute or stylish. Now, fashionable eyewear is more readily available in larger frames, making it easier for me to express who I am, even when I’m wearing frumpy sweats. I wanted to be an ambassador to the segment of folks who aren’t models, with perfectly sized heads, or who have been hiding behind ill-fitting/shaped glasses and let them know that there are great options out there, and that they don’t have to cost an arm and a leg or require fancy insurance. People with huge heads, REJOICE!
I chose this pair of glasses for my style ambassador starter kit because: I’ve always wanteda good pair of cat-eye frames, but more often than not, the frames are too narrow, and the width/lenses were too small for my face. I saw these, fell in love with the two-tone, and of course was ecstatic to see that the size was exactly what I was looking for!
My glasses collection consists of ___ pairs of frames: 24. Yes, 24. I have a serious problem, I think I might need an intervention.
My favorite fashion trend of the moment is: Anything with mixed textiles like leather & knits, or mixing of prints, and layers. Always layer.
If I could be stuck in an elevator with anyone, it would be: I’m just gonna say it; my boyfriend. Not because of the companion ship/lovey reasons, but mainly because if the elevator were indeed “stuck” I’d be in full panic mode. Between the whining, tears, and hyperventilating, it’s just not cute and he’s seen me at my worst.
I would describe my personal style as: I’m kind of all over the place. I have a unique shaped body, and sometimes, I’m just excited if something fits. But my personal aesthetic really depends on my mood or where I am going. I like to be comfy, but I always want to look good. If it has stripes, polka dots, or leopard print, I’m probably buying it. I love anything on the vintage pin-up side (fun, flirty), but also love a more buttoned up chic look. I love to sew, so I appreciate things that have great structure, as well as things that have an effortless drape. I think as a result, I just enjoy good style lines and to me, that transcends any one genre.
My go-to drink at Starbucks is: Tall pike in a grande cup with cold soy.
Glasses are an amazing accessory because: They allow me to see. Otherwise I’d be totally blind. And a bonus, they can completely change, and complement any outfit.
The best way to organize a closet is: A total mystery to me. Please forward all tips and suggestions.
A tip on picking out the perfect pair of frames is: Make sure they fit your face. Nothing is worse than tiny frames on a big head, or huge frames on a tiny face. After that, pick something that you feel comfortable wearing… attitude and confidence is the ultimate companion to your glasses.
My current style muse is: I don’t know if I have any one person I look to. I just try and stay true to my personal style and what I feel confident in.
My favorite online source for style inspiration is: Right now, I am really digging @targetdoesitagain on Instagram for some fun, inexpensive, and easy to execute outfits. There are also a plethora of cool designers and stylists on Pinterest. Oh, and of course @coastaldotcom.
Some favorite boutiques in my area are: Therapy, Jeremy’s, Stripe
My favorite fashion blogger is: I’m not a huge blogger reader, but I have a few peeps on Instagram that I follow for inspiration: Mod Cloth, Kat Von D, The Glitter Guide, Helen the Beast & Anya (from Project Runway)…
Buying the same piece of clothing in multiple colors, yay or nay? Totes yay. If it fits, looks great, is going to get a lot of use, and is versatile, why not?
Favorite city to go shopping is: On the internetz. I mean, shopping in my underwear on the couch while I watch bad reality TV and shove Cheetos in my mouth? #duh
