The Change the View project was developed by Coastal.com with the goal of donating over 2 million pairs of glasses by the year 2020. Since its inception the project has expanded to include donating not only eyeglasses but also protective sunglasses and vitamins that are known to improve eye health.
Just this past July the Change the View project was in San Francisco for four days, providing complete eye health examinations in partnership with optometrists. Once participants received their prescription they had access to our virtual Try On View, a tool customers can use to help see what glasses styles best suit them. Due in part to the support of a number of news outlets, the project was able to help 470 individuals who normally would not have access to eye care facilities.
Roger Hardy, founder and CEO of Coastal.com noted, “It is important for us to get involved with the local community to help provide people in need with eyewear that is so important to their daily life. For many it is simply unattainable by their own means. We feel lucky to be able to give back through our Change the View project”.
As we observe World Sight Day, held each year on the second Thursday in October, we hope to do our part to answer the World Health Organization’s call to prevent visual impairment and restore sight.
