Vial Contact Lenses

Rigid Gas Permeable contact lenses are a stiffer lens made of gas permeable materials that make them beneficial for use as contact lenses.

Rigid gas permeable lenses are rigid lenses, similar to hard contact lenses. This characteristic allows the lenses to keep their shape in the eye and provide clearer crisper vision. You may appreciate the fact that rigid lenses can replace the natural shape of the cornea and will hold their shape when you blink. What does this all mean? Rigid gas permeable lenses, also known as RGP lenses or rigid lenses provide sharper vision than soft lenses and are especially good if you have astigmatism. Another advantage is that they are really strong, so they won’t tear as easily as soft lenses.

Rigid gas permeable lenses don’t contain water as soft lenses do, so protein and lipids won’t cling to the lenses as much and will be easier to clean. Many rigid lenses contain silicone. So despite their stiffer feel, they are actually quite flexible and allow oxygen to pass through the lenses. This is a good thing as it as it allows your eyes to breathe and provide lasting comfort. Finally, rigid gas permeable lenses will likely last longer than regular soft lenses, so they can be less expensive in the long run since you’ll have to replace them less often.
