Vera Wang: Classic Sensibility

Dressing everyone from figure skaters to political figures, Vera Wang has long been the go-to designer for elegant gowns and, of course, the most coveted bridal gowns worldwide. Her collections now include everything from bridal to eveningwear to eyewear that embody her classic sensibility.

Fashion wasn’t always her original aim, with Vera Wang’s early focus being that of Olympic Figure Skater.  Failing to make the team she quickly refocused her sights on fashion, quickly rising the ranks as a Senior Fashion editor for Vogue and Design Director at Ralph Lauren.

Vera Wang gained international attention for her revolutionary approach to bridal as fashionable piece with timeless appeal. She broke through popular culture when Vera Wang bridal was the only choice for Charlotte York from Sex and the City, and Carrie wearing her gowns for a Vogue photo shoot.

Selected by brides across the globe, Vera Wang’s bridal designs have been worn by celebrities and prominent figures, including Alicia Keys, Lily Aldridge and Chelsea Clinton. Our eyewear picks for the Vera Wang bride include lavender glasses that pick up the floral colors of Alicia’s bouquet, tabac acetate frames that compliment Lily and Caleb Followill’s rustic affair, and gunmetal glasses that match the embellished details of Chelsea’s sash.

Branching into ready-to-wear, Vera Wang has demonstrated her appeal each collection while racking up accolades such as the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Womenswear Designer of the Year award, the André Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award and an induction to the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame for her costume design.

Claudine Sun Suede glasses would pair nicely with one of her breezy dresses, while her Olivine glasses are an ideal match with her Spring 2013 Collection. Burgundy glasses pick up the undertones of look 32 from her Fall 2013 show.

Vera Wang is a favorite creator of snap-worthy gowns on the awards and premier circuit and has been the choice of Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson.  At the Academy Awards her designs are consistently on the Best Dressed Lists, including Charlize Theron’s now iconic tangerine gown, Michelle Williams’ stunning mustard and Viola Davis’ vibrant emerald green.

Vera’s masterful work with color is seen in her eyewear design. Burgundy frames would match the jeweled tones of Viola’s dress, while 050 tabac’s striated pattern picks up the warm glow of Michelle’s gown and 050 Aqua glasses follow the same pastel category of Charlize’s choice.
