Marc by Marc Jacobs comes from the mind of award winning designer, Marc Jacobs who has been named as one of Time magazine’s Time 100 of the “100 most influential people in the world”. Creative Director and Designer of Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs, Jacobs has his hand of the pulse of fashion – from the runway to street style.
Marc Jacobs, a graduate of the Parsons School of Design, quickly moved his way through the elite fashion ranks that was cemented when he became the youngest designer to win the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Perry Ellis Award for “New Fashion Talent”. Soon he was designed the now infamous ‘Grunge Collection’ that led to his dismissal but has now become a cult collection.
Quickly moving forward, Marc Jacobs soon become the designer of his eponymous line, as well as becoming the creative designer of Louis Vuitton. Vogue.com notes,” Jacobs has always been a genuine arbiter of cool, a prodigious talent with a third eye for knowing what women want to wear”. Marc Jacobs has led the popularization of designer and artists collaborations, most famously with Takashi Murakami, Stephen Sprouse and Richard Prince through their work for the Louis Vuitton brand.
His Marc by Marc Jacobs line has been described by Women’s Wear Daily as “a collection of little treasures from throughout fashion history, each rewritten in Jacobs’s handwriting.” With Marc by Marc Jacobs the idea is to mix and match and, as Jacobs describes,” it’s fine to have a young outlook, but women aren’t going to wear just that…the youthfulness in my collection is in its sense of humor.”
Marc Jacobs is close friends with some of fashion and some of the biggest names in music, fashion and Hollywood, including Kate Moss, Sofia Coppola, Pharrell Williams and Kanye West. His creations have been photographed at one point or another on nearly every celebrity, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Liv Tyler, Freida Pinto and Mary Kate and Ashley Olson.
