Girls in Glasses: Season Two

Since making its debut in the Spring of 2012, Lena Dunham’s Girls has been a cultural and fashion sensation in its brash depiction four young 20-something women making their way through life and career in New York.  Earning multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Award Nominations for the first season of Girls, Lena Dunham has been making the media rounds to promote the highly anticipated second season as fans wait to see what is next for the eclectic group of friends on the show,  Hannah Horvath, Marnie Michaels, Jessa Johansson and Shoshanna Shapiro.

CLASSIC: Marnie Michaels

Hannah’s long suffering friend, Marnie Michaels begins this season completely out of the comfort zone where she began in Girls first season.  Introduced as s a Gallery Assistant with a long term college boyfriend, Marnie’s style is streamlined and put together.  Played by Allison Williams, Marnie is the most refined and classic of the group, but is now moving past her college days and appearing to embrace a professional demeanor while questioning her loyalties and choices.

Derek Cardigan 7021 Wood glasses would suit Marnie Michaels classic style with a twist.  The colon and semi-colon detailing on the glasses suits Marnie’s brainy personality and also provides a boost of humor.

DARING: Jessa Johansson

Free-spirit Jessa Johansson is the boldest of the Girls crew when it comes to her fashion selection and life choices.  Portrayed by Jemima Kirke, Jessa challenges the expected with a devil-may-care attitude and, most unexpectedly, choosing to surprise her friends with a impromptu wedding with a new boyfriend, demonstrating that she is continually ready to turn convention on its head. As a modern-Bohemian, Jessa pairs vintage with retro-inspired pieces and bold jewelry for a perfect mix.

Rough Justice Material Gurl Pomegranate glasses would suite but Jemima Kirke and her character’s free-spirited personality. Colorful with a large oval shape, these glasses are a great addition to an already eclectic wardrobe, or are a great option if you just want a pop to a classic palette.

VINTAGE: Hannah Horvath

As the featured character, and extension of Lena Dunham’s personality, Hannah Horvath navigated through financial and emotional disruptions throughout the first season.  Hannah pushes fashion’s boundaries, often pairing vintage dresses and blouses with costume jewelry along with flats and pencil skirts. Most of the buzz surrounding the second season trailer focuses on her questionable yellow mesh tank top, hinting that the next season of Girls will bring with it no shortage of fashion talking points.

Derek Cardigan 7011 Brown Tortoiseshell glasses are an ideal pairing to Hannah’s modern take on vintage style.  Featuring a strong browline and math symbol detailing, these Derek Cardigan glasses are a great look for a confident woman finding their way through life’s every turn.

PREPPY: Shoshanna Shapiro

Shoshanna Shapiro, played by Zosia Mamet, is the most preppy of the group of friends, but in true Girls fashion is as quirky and uncertain as her counterparts.  As an innocent New York University student, Shoshanna fixates on Sex and the City with very little of the lifestyle to match. For season two, Girls costume designer Jennifer Rogien describes that Shoshanna has evolved, “We talked about how do we maybe grow her up a little bit to reflect where she is in her life, so we tweaked her color palette…and added a heel here and there”.

Vera Wang Luxe Romance Black glasses, with their classic shape and jeweled details, is an ideal brand and style for Shoshanna’s preppy and evolving character.  Sleek and feminine, these glasses would be a great look to pair for her next incarnation.
