I was reluctant to order glasses off of a facebook ad. I have had nothing but bad experiences when it comes to purchasing glasses at brick and mortar stores. My head is kind of wide and I always wind up with a pair of glasses that looks like they are screaming to hold on to my head. Not with this pair. I picked the size and measured them against my current pair. I was amazed that there were such variations in size and even more amazed that nobody ever recommended a larger size for my head/face.

I am still shocked at how well this worked out.

I get compliments on these frames daily.

I will definitely be ordering another pair soon!

This was my first purchase from Coastal, and I chose this pair because of its size and the First-Pair-Free deal. Though I ordered it near the end of the year, I was hoping to find a bigger selection available for First-Pair-Free frames. I was a bit disheartened to only find a small selection available in late December 2013 (maybe it was my fault for waiting?). Regardless, I began to narrow my findings down to my exact necessities: a larger frame which would fit my oval face but not make me look much more full-faced than I already am; a masculine pair of frames; a bigger lens size to be able to see as much corrected field of vision as possible; and a frame which didn't dig into and pinch my temples and creating headaches like my last pair eventually did.

Though the R.Hardy line was new to me, I finally settled on this specific pair as it seemed large enough, sturdy, masculine and exactly what I needed.

The pros: they're definitely large. A bit bold, yes, but not outrageously boisterous in size. They look and feel more like a classic vintage pair. The temples don't pinch, they're definitely getting attention and compliments, and they serve their purpose for the most part as I wear them all day at work, home and out.

The cons: they're heavy. They slip quite a bit, needing to be readjusted at least twice an hour if not more. I am going to have to buy some nose cushions to compensate. Bigger lenses also means more smudges--I find myself cleaning them daily whereas my older smaller pair could stay clean for a few days before needing to be tended to. They're also much more flimsy than I expected: for their size I imagined they would be sturdy but right out of the box one arm felt loose and though I've tightened it as much as possible still remains flimsy. They're so big in fact that they tore the slim side of the complimentary hard case that coastal sends them in during shipping! Lastly, at greater distances, somehow definition is lost under certain conditions--I use correcting lenses with a rather low correction but based on genetics and health issues I do find myself needing them most of the day now than I'm almost 30. This pair, however (which was based on a one-month-old prescription) will sometimes warp and lose visual definition of what I focus on in the distance (50 ft or more), depending on the iggt only conditions. I've never had that happen with previous pairs. Not sure if it's an issue with the lenses themselves?

In the end, I'm ok with the pair. I don't hate it, I don't love it, but I at least know what to expect from ordering a pair for the future. I only suggest these for people who want/need a larger frame!

Comments about R. Hardy 9030 Navy:

I've been wearing these for about a week now. They are very good-looking glasses and I like the colors. They are not terribly comfortable and one of the hinges is a little loose. They are also big on my head, but I have a fairly small head for a male.

Use the product as extra pair of glasses. wouldn't wear them outside. there is bend on bridge of nose that I didn't expect and very much changes the "look"of the glasses.
